Maria Skinner has devoted most of her life to movement and to the love of being in a  body. When she was 3 years old, she realized that the only time she felt completely happy is when she was moving and listening to music or running around outside. She was born in Uruguay and her earliest memories are of playing at the beach and connecting to the movement in nature, the waves, the wind, the sand shifting in the water.  This love of movement led her to study many dance forms beginning with African, Haitian Dance, Samba and Contact Improvisation before finding The Nia Technique.  For 20 years, Nia was the primary vessel through which she shared her love of music, movement and fitness. Since 2015, she has moved into developing programs that merge movement, music and mindfulness. She is a founder of BeSoul™, an Ageless Grace Certified Trainer & Educator and owner of StarFish Dance & Yoga (formerly Yoga & Nia For Life) in West Concord, MA. She received her Black Belt in Nia and is a former Nia White Belt Trainer. Maria co-authored the Spanish translation of Our Bodies, Ourselves; Nuestros Cuerpos, Nuestras Vidas, and contributed to My Hungry Head by Marybeth Sherrin.  She is also the founder of Embodied Astrology.
